Biography

Mezzo-soprano Julie Hausmann holds a degree in music and theater from Smith College, and a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance from Boston University’s College of Fine Arts.
As the recipient of an Alexander von Humboldt German Chancellor Fellowship, she spent a year researching German arts management and funding at the Stuttgart State Opera.
In 2005, Ms. Hausmann made her solo debut with the Boston Pops singing the final movement of Beethoven's 9th Symphony under the direction of Maestro Keith Lockhart. She has performed with numerous choral groups including the Springfield (Massachusetts) Symphony Chorus and the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, and has sung under the batons of internationally acclaimed conductors James Levine, Michael TilsonThomas, Sir Colin Davis, and Bernard Haitink.
Her stage experience includes roles with the College Light Opera Company on Cape Cod, the Boston University Opera Theater and the New England Conservatory Opera Workshop.
She has recorded for the Discovery Channel and can be heard singing with the Tanglewood Festival Chorus on the Boston Pops' "America" CD recording and the recently released "Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus" recording.
In addition to performing, Ms. Hausmann has spent more than 15 years working in the non-profit arena for such organizations as the Boston Lyric Opera, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, and the Huntington Theatre Company.

She has been a member of the voice faculty of the Hopkinton Music Association and the Holliston School for the Performing Arts. Her students have participated in District and All-State Music Festivals, attended summer training programs at the University of New Hampshire, Boston University, and the Boston Conservatory, and have been accepted to prestigious performing arts programs at colleges and universities across the country.

A native of Western Massachusetts, Ms. Hausmann currently maintains a private vocal studio and resides in the Metrowest Boston area.
